What will the standard of the tournament be like?
Competition will range from beginner to world-class levels, with participants bracketed according to level. In accordance with the Gay Games principles of Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best, there are no qualifying standards. Participants of all levels are encouraged to participate.
What are the uniform requirements?
For both Open and women the following uniform and equipment rules apply.
Each team member must have two jerseys, one lighter colored and the other darker colored. Each must have a 6-inch number on the back and a 4-inch number on the front. Numbers must be whole numbers from 1 to 99. Jerseys must have short or long sleeves. Jerseys must be long enough to remain tucked inside the shorts or be at midriff, short enough that the entire belt and flags can be seen at all times. Metal spikes are not allowed. Shorts or pants cannot have pockets. Shorts cannot have vertical stripes. No jewelry allowed unless completely taped over. Hats may be worn but must of a soft material and not have a hard bill. Players may wear mouth guards. Soft knee pads are allowed.
How many players are allowed on the field at any one time?
Open teams are allowed a maximum of 7 players on the field during play. Women’s teams are allowed 8 players per team. (Notes: Team must have 8 players on field to begin and to continue game; if team loses a player for any reason during the game and cannot field 8 players, that team shall forfeit game). Women may have a maximum of 20 players on a team’s roster.
Can I play for more than one team?
No. Players are allowed to play for only one team.
What is the length of each game?
Women’s games will consist of two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute half-time. The Game clock will run continuously with the exception of time outs and injuries. Open games will consist of two 30-minute halves with a 10-minute half-time. The game clock will run continuously with the exception of time-outs, penalties and the 2-minute warning of each half
Do I need to bring any equipment?
Game balls will be provided by tournament. Teams cannot use their own ball. Women will use Wilson Jr. ball, Open will use Wilson standard size ball. Belts and flags will be provided by tournament as well. Two flags to be worn, one on each hip
Are my friends and family able to watch?
Yes, the Flag Football competition will take place at Chicago Park District Parks. Spectators are encouraged to attend.
How many divisions are available for competition?
There will be 2 divisions (Competitive and Recreational) in the Open competition and two (2) divisions (Competitive and Recreational) in the women’s competition. Women may play on the Open teams. Only women may play on the women's teams.
Will I be able to play in more than one sport?
There are no strict policies against competing in another sport, however individuals are highly discouraged from doing so, as schedules for sporting competitions will most likely conflict. If a participant registers for more than one sport, they do so at their own risk. |
