Rock Star
Melissa Etheridge
Sings Gay Games Praises
“As a musician, I have seen how
powerfully the arts can break down the barriers that divide us,” said Melissa
Etheridge from her Los Angeles, California home.>>The
Gay Games bring people together around sports and culture, inspiring us
to build a world without bigotry. I support the Gay Games because it is
a joyful international celebration of diversity, individuality, and equality.
`Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best’ isn’t just the Gay Games credo
– it is a vision of the future that focuses attention on our joint humanity.
That’s the future that I want for myself and my children and I’m happy
to lend my enthusiastic support to the legacy of the Gay Games.<<Read

Thank You,
Munich!
5300 registered athletes, 4500 registered
fans, 20,000+ tourists - EuroGames 2004 was the largest EuroGames ever
and gave Gay Games VII organizers a glimpse into the future as seven Chicago
representatives traveled to Munich, Germany, for the event 29 July to 01
August 2004. Joining with eight representatives from the international
Federation of Gay Games and its member sports organizations, everyone spent
4 glorious sun-drenched days in Bavaria. After 10 to 12 hour days
interacting with athletes and artists at venues and at Olympic Park in
Munich, no wonder everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Munich nightlife, friendly
atmosphere, and - of course - that world-famous German beer. |
| Congratulations to Eric Demoulin,
a tennis player from Brussels, Belgium, the winner of two roundtrip
tickets to Chicago from Europe for Gay Games VII. Hundreds of EuroGames
participants signed up for the special drawing, and thousands took home
Gay Games materials in German, Spanish, French and English |
| Special thanks go to the tireless
volunteers in Munich who worked long hours to ensure that this event was
a success for the athletes, artists and fans from 40 participating countries.
And a big thank you to the Hilton Munich Park, the official host for the
Gay Games delegation while we were in Munich. The property was top-notch
and the Hilton's staff couldn't have been more helpful. We were thrilled
to call the Hilton "home" while we were in Munich. Visit
Hilton website. |

A New
Jewel Sparkles in Downtown Chicago
Already world-renowned for its architectural
wonders and stunning lakefront, at the dawn of the new millennium Chicago
began a downtown park redevelopment project, Millennium Park, that opened
16 July to worldwide acclaim. The centerpiece of this US$475 million project
is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, an open air music venue designed by
world-famous architect Frank Gehry that will serve as the primary venue
for Sing Out and Step Out, Gay Games VII band and chorus
programs. |
| The Pritzker Pavilion features sixty-foot
tall ribbons of steel reminiscent of brass horns and crashing waves
that spring out of a state-of-the-art performance stage surrounded by landscaping
and pedestrian facilities specifically designed to enhance sound projection
toward the seating area and lawn. A serpentine footbridge augments other
access points and screens out sound interference from the bustling metropolis
nearby. With Chicago's famous skyline surrounding the park like the flying
buttresses of a great Gothic cathedral, and an innovative audio system
distributed throughout the overhead grid, the experience by musician and
spectator alike will be exhilarating. Read

Sponsors
Sponsors are crucial to the success
of the Gay Games. Sponsors bring important financial and in-kind
resources not only to the Gay Games host organization but to the athletes,
artists and fans. Sponsors gain affiliation with an inspiring, worldwide
event with a legacy of more than two decades. Over the next two years
we will thank our sponsors many times, but the early sponsors deserve special
kudos for stepping up first and supporting Chicago, the Federation of Gay
Games and the Gay Games movement. Thanks
