NEW INFO - The Band Program now officially includes Cheer Teams and Color Guard (ROTC). We are modifying our registration system now, but Cheer Team members and Color Guard members may NOW REGISTER. Complete the registration process normally, but select "Band" from the list of Sports/Culture Programs. We'll update this page with more Cheer and Color Guard information as quickly as possible. Welcome!!!

Music has the capacity to lift one's soul, and the LGBT band movement has accomplished that and more as it has rapidly grown and developed. In Chicago, the Lakeside Pride Bands are very much a part of this movement, an integral part of Chicago's gay and lesbian cultural community, performing at dozens of city events each year, including the annual LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, Pride Parade, and at festivals and concerts.

For the first time, color guards and cheer teams will be part of the Band program, adding even more excitement and energy to the week-long cultural festival. These teams have always played a part in the Gay Games, but in Gay Games VII they will be full-fledged participants, receiving Gay Games participant medals, marching with the other athletes and artists into the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and fully integrated into the Gay Games VII cultural program. Welcome Aboard!

Stepping Out - the main Gay Games VII Band concert - will take place at the new Frank Gehry-designed Millennium Park Music Pavilion on Wednesday, 19 July 2006. Band, color guard and cheer performances will also be featured at Opening and Closing Ceremonies and there will be daytime performances at a variety of events, especially sporting events, to integrate band members into the full Gay Games VII experience. A festival band concert with the Lakeside Pride Band will feature guests from Latin America.

While a complete band, color guard or cheer team may register for Gay Games VII, we will also offer an opportunity for bands to pick up additional members for the Gay Games VII from other cities and countries, as well as for individuals to be added to performances by registering as individuals. To accommodate a wide range of skills, a novice/intermediate band may be formed.
