Metra Service

Metra operates 12 commuter rail lines that connect approximately 230 outlying stations to Chicago from a six county area surrounding the City. There are also connections to Wisconsin on the Union Pacific North Line (Kenosha) and to Northwest Indiana (to South Bend) on the South Shore Line.

Connections to the North Sports Village in Evanston are easy on the Union Pacific North Line (in addition to the CTA rapid transit system). The South Sports Village is also an easy ride on the Metra Electric Line from the Randolph Street Station across from Chicago’s Cultural Center.

Metra fares are based on distance traveled. One-way fares to locations in the immediate Chicago area (including the sports villages of the Gay Games) are generally $2.00 to $3.00.

All Metra trains include cars that are accessible for persons with mobility limitations. Service includes a mix of local and express trains and stops are announced in advance by an automated system. Metra does NOT allow bicycles to be transported on the commuter rail system.
