Magnificent Mile & Shopping
As one of the top five shopping areas in the world, Chicago's magnificent mile is always under worldly surveillance. If you yearn to be in vogue, this should be your classroom. The Magnificent Mile, along legendary Michigan Avenue in the heart of downtown, offers shopping at the world's finest department stores, designer boutiques, fashion trunk shows, and art galleries amidst a backdrop of stunning flower gardens, light displays, street performance and unparalleled architecture. The more than 460 retail stores, including the flagship Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue, Bloomingdale's, specialty boutiques, and three shopping malls offer something for everyone.
Nearby State Street, Chicago's original retail heart, still beats to the drum of commerce after being revitalized in the late 1990's to look as it did in the early 19th century. There visitors will be awed by the historic Marshall Fields department store, built in 1852, with its 6,000 square foot ceiling with Tiffany dome, and massive granite Corinthian columns. This second largest department store in the world is an architectural wonder and a shoppers delight. Vintage clothing, books, antiques, and one-of-a-kind items can also be unearthed in the shops dotting Chicago's 77 neighborhoods.

Driven by the beat of the bass and the squeal of the guitar, there's no better place to catch the blues than Chicago. North Side and downtown blues joints wail well into the night. Although blues may be Chicago's backbone, jazz, gospel and folk and just about any musical genre can be heard in the clubs and on the streets.
