More than any one element, the Opening Ceremony carries the power of experience and personal transformation that imbue the Gay Games with such life-changing quality. For anyone in the stadium as the Processional begins – whether among the athletes and artists or taking part in the experience from among the 60,000 spectators – the energy and atmosphere at that moment and throughout the ensuing spectacle will be something that will remain resonant in one’s heart, forever.
The Opening Ceremony of Gay Games VII will incorporate the legacy of tradition possessed by this moment, and make history as the event evolves before our eyes into a profound, kinetic representation of the global gay and lesbian communal experience. Beginning with an entirely new concept for the Processional (info: march with your local team) that will thrill and excite athlete and spectator, alike, the Ceremony will unfold through a powerful narrative fabric made up of performance, movement, art, music and the spoken word.
Appearances and performances by world-famous and award-winning actors, musicians and personalities will highlight the night. These entertainers will be interwoven with traditional ceremonial components and an historic narrative told through the movement of an international corps of 400 dancers, choreographed by a team of artists representing the breadth, scope and possibility inherent in theatrical and stage movement.
Throughout the arc of the evening, the 500-member Ceremonies Chorus – composed of individuals and choruses from all across the globe – will underscore, highlight and punctuate the action on the field.
Icons of the international gay and lesbian sports and cultural communities will lend their presence to the proceedings; giving personal voice to augment the impact of what is taking place on the field. Our community will manifest itself in unexpected ways, articulating the power and diversity of the world that we represent, and surprising the audience through the event.
The Ignition of the Flame will be orchestrated by America’s edgy, high-flying Anti Gravity, along with a collection of world-renown musicians providing a score of awesome power.
This will be an experience not to be missed; as the Games will not return to the North American Continent for at least another eight years.
