Venue Millenium Park Chicago's downtown Millennium Park will be the site for Medal Ceremonies each evening, with appropriate pomp and circumstance taking place at the Peristyle. The Peristyle is a nearly full-sized replica of the curving row of paired Greek columns that originally graced the northwest corner of Grant Park near Michigan and Randolph between 1917 and 1953. (A peristyle is a term of Greek origin for a structure that consists of a series of columns enclosing a court.)
A gift from the William Wrigley Jr. Company, the semi-circle of Doric-style columns rises to a height of nearly 40 feet, restoring a classical elegance to that section of Grant Park while commemorating all the Millennium Park donors in perpetuity. There is a large grassy area with ample room for spectators, medalists and athletes to gather for the Medal Ceremonies, and it is within walking distance of Lake Michigan, mass transit, and the Media Center.
